Pension Ciel

The heated ski room and spacious bedroom were much appreciated during our great stay in Hakuba. Escal Plaza is a quick walk away, or you can catch the free shuttle right out front. Breakfasts were delicious, and Takashi and Satoko were so helpful and accommodating. Thanks again!

My room was clean and had its own bathroom and toilet. There was no air conditioning, but during my September stay, the breeze through the open window felt really pleasant. Depending on the season, I think it could still be comfortable without AC.

I thought it was a nice guesthouse and might book again on a whim, even at the last minute. I was able to stay five nights as a solo traveler after making a last-minute booking. My room was a small twin with its own bathroom and toilet. The dining room is downstairs, and breakfast is Western style, with eggs, salad, sausage, bread and coffee. Two slices of bread are included, with more available, and they were good. There's plenty of parking for the number of rooms, probably enough if each room has one car or fewer. The parking is in the open space in front of the building. Room cleaning isn't provided during a multi-night stay. Towels and toothbrushes are supplied in packets, but I'd bring my own. The bathroom has a foot towel, shampoo and body soap. Free Wi-Fi is available, though I didn't use it. The heating is a fuel heater, so turn it off when you go to sleep. If you keep it running, you may need to air out the room now and then. There was no separate heating charge, so checkout didn't bring an unexpected extra cost. Goryu Ski Resort is about a three-minute drive away. The road straight up from the guesthouse seems to lead to the resort, but may be closed to traffic; I didn't check carefully. Instead, go up a little, turn left at the stop sign, then right at the end of the road to go around. Getting to the guesthouse from National Route 148 involves narrow alleys, so drive slowly at night. If coming from the north, turn left about 100m past Kamishiro Station. Cross the railroad crossing and follow the road uphill. There's another crossing between Kamishiro Station and the road in front of the guesthouse where cars can't pass, so taking the wrong turn makes things difficult. At night, you'll be relying on the guesthouse lights. There's a small sign saying "Ciel" in English, easy to miss when it's pitch black.
