Pension & Cottage Shokubutsushi

The owners were so lovely and thoughtful, and the pension was spotless with great WiFi. We stayed in a basic twin room that had everything we needed, including extras like toothbrushes, cotton tip buds, body wash and shampoo. Breakfast was delicious and huge, with eggs, Bacon or sausage, soup, salad, yoghurt, bread, juice and coffee. It’s a short walk, maybe 300 meters, to the end of the street where buses go to the resorts, and about a 10-minute walk to echoland restaurants, cafes and bars. They drove us and all our gear to the train station for a surcharge, which was cheaper than a taxi.

Pets are allowed, and the pension is big, clean, cozy and well equipped for dogs, even with plastic bags. The people working there were really nice and helped us with our needs and questions. The restaurant food was delicious and great quality. They have lots of sizes of equipment for rent if you want to go to the sky parks. Everything was in good condition, and you could ask them to wax it if needed. This is by far the loveliest place to stay. Totally recommend it.

Being able to rent the whole building makes this a really comfortable option for families and groups. You can park right out front, which makes loading and unloading luggage easy. The Hakuba area ski resorts are about 20 minutes away. Lift tickets and equipment rental are also available for purchase.

February 2026. A shuttle bus is available for 2000 yen with a phone reservation. The Goryeo Ski Pass costs 7500 yen, with a 500 yen deposit refunded after skiing. There’s a dry room, and there’s a hair dryer in the downstairs bathroom. Some rooms may not have bathrooms. The bathroom is rather old.
