Our travel plans were delayed, but the hosts stayed up late and kept the door open so we could check in. We loved our stay at Red Door Lodge and hope to return soon. If you want friendly hosts who go out of their way to make your visit a good one, this is the place.

Our family’s first ski trip to Hakuba was unforgettable, thanks to Red Door Lodge. The hosts were lovely, the room was cozy, and breakfast was delicious, especially the scrambled eggs made with love. Our 11-year-old felt right at home. Highly recommend!

In winter, the area feels like a fairy tale when it snows, and there are several nearby pubs and restaurants with great food. Buses are reasonably priced and make it easy to get around. Red Door Lodge is well placed for Hakuba Goryu snow resort, and Nicola, Alex, and James are wonderful hosts. It’s also very reasonably priced, and the lodging can be arranged to suit your group. Families or friends get their own dining table in the shared dining area. The bacon, eggs, and toast they make are some of the best I’ve had. I highly recommend staying here.

Nic and James made our group’s stay at the RDL special. From the day we arrived, they helped with anything we needed and even picked us up while we were in the area. They also knew all about shuttle and bus times, places to eat and drink, and where to ski or snowboard. It’s the best place I’ve stayed in Japan.

Nic, the owner, and her minion James looked after us so well, even cooking breakfast in the morning. Try the omelette. She picked us up from the train station, drove us back when we left, and even took us up the hill to the gear hire shop. The place has what you need for a snow trip: warm, dry, and comfortable. It’s a short walk up the hill to Goryu if you don’t want to take the bus from around the corner. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, and you might meet some new friends too. I couldn’t recommend it enough.
