Hotel LC Gifu-Hashima

Nice hotel, though breakfast isn’t included.

At least there was no cigarette smell. But the building is old and the walls are thin, so noise from other rooms made it hard to fall asleep and woke me during the night or early morning. I couldn’t get a good night’s rest.

The large public bath is a nice feature, but the water is far too hot, hot enough that you could get burned. I ended up filling the tub in my room with hot water instead.

I stay in business hotels often, and this was the first one I’ve seen without ice. I wondered if it was just because it was nighttime, so I asked about the morning and was told it would be available then too. Maybe there’s no ice maker, or maybe they simply don’t provide that service. Either way, it was disappointing. Ice isn’t just for an evening drink. I carry a water bottle while touring in daytime heat above 37°C, so I really need it. I called ahead to ask whether I could park my motorcycle, but didn’t check about ice, so I’ll have to ask about that from now on. If I’d known they didn’t have ice, I wouldn’t have stayed there.
