We booked the whole inn for our extended family of nine and had a lovely time. The trains don’t come very often, but that wasn’t a problem for us. The hosts were excellent and always made us feel at home. They also helped us reserve dinner at Rongkiya, which was amazing.

The sea views are beautiful, and it’s a nice place to enjoy them. The futons were comfortable, though the pillows were a little flat. The property was clean and close to the water, but the nearby station and tracks made things a bit noisy early in the morning.

We happened to be there for the first morning of the year and had the traditional New Year breakfast the hostel prepared. The food and atmosphere made for a lovely morning. The setting is calm, and the host’s hospitality was impressive. My stay was absolutely amazing, and there’s a train station nearby.

The view from our room was wonderful, looking out over Ōmura Bay. We watched the sunset and sunrise as trains passed by, and the lodge’s spot right on the coast was beautiful. We stayed just one night, but it was very relaxing, and I’d love to return. Saito Shukuba is only a few minutes from Chiwata Station, a popular place to visit for photos. The station building dates to 1928 and has a traditional Japanese timber design with a tiled roof. The owner was thoughtful and friendly, with a warm welcome, easy check-in, and a breakfast treat. The bunk beds reminded me of a night train, and my children loved them. Each bed had its own light and outlet, which I especially liked. There was free wifi too. Breakfast was simple and healthy, with miso soup and rice made using local farm produce.

The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Satito, know the good restaurants and shops around town and helped us plan trips from the house. All the places they suggested were stylish and nice, and we had a great time in Higashi-sonogi and nearby towns. Our guest house was very close to Chiwata station on the JR Ohmura line. We stayed in the room "Kukai" and relaxed with beers while watching the sunset over Ohmura Bay. We also enjoyed seeing the local trains, and if you're lucky, you might catch special ones like "Aru Ressha" and "Nanatsu-boshi".
