Grandvrio Hotel Beppuwan Wakura

You really need a car here. There’s basically nothing nearby unless you’re willing to wait for the shuttle bus. The hotel is spacious and can fit four singles in two bunks, one above the other. The view is great if you get a sea-facing room. WiFi, though, could be extremely slow or fail to connect altogether, so bring enough phone data if you stay.

I traveled with my parents, husband, and two-year-old daughter, and the playroom gave us a much-needed chance to rest while she stayed entertained. She loved the hot chocolate machine and the Yakult, and still talks about them. The restaurant also had baby toys to keep the kids occupied while the adults ate. We really appreciated the afternoon snacks and drinks in the lobby, along with the drinks machines, ice cream, Yakult, and beer outside the baths. The onsen was clean and lovely, and I got some relaxing time to myself. I’d recommend this place to anyone traveling with little kids. It made such a strong impression on me during our March 2025 trip that I’m still thinking about it months later. If I’m back in Beppu, I’d choose it again for sure!

The view over Beppu Bay is truly breathtaking. The rooms are spacious, elegantly designed, and have modern amenities. There’s an onsen, a kids’ playroom, a massage chair for ladies, and a drinks lounge. Breakfast stood out in particular, with a wide range of Western and Japanese choices. I’d highly recommend Grandvrio for a relaxing Beppu getaway.

The sunrise from our sea view room was breathtaking, and the room itself was clean with sublime beds. The hotel was pristine and posh, with friendly, professional service. Some staff spoke impeccable English. I stayed four nights at the end of March 2025, and this was the best hotel I’d stayed at in Japan. The food was high quality and tasty, but it repeated quite a bit and didn’t vary much over the four nights. One big plus was the free drinks at certain times of day, including hot and cold coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol. I’ll definitely come back!
