Kudenhama Onsen Himinohana

You can reach this natural hot spring inn in about an hour by bus from Takaoka Station, or drive around ten minutes from the Nadaura exit on the Noto Expressway. Day-use bathing is available for about what you'd pay at a public bath, and it's a relaxing visit. The water has a distinctive slippery feel that leaves your skin smooth. There’s also an ocean-view outdoor bath and a sauna. Lunch is worth considering too, especially for the fresh seafood.

I visited in early February and loved soaking in the spring, which was just the right temperature, while looking out at the snow and ocean. I'd heard yellowtail catches were poor, but the seasonal kaiseki still included plenty of Himi yellowtail. The sashimi and shabu-shabu were both delicious. I was very happy with the meal, though the portions were a lot for a small eater like me, so next time I'll choose a course with fewer dishes. The free fisheries center next door has some interesting things to do. If you stay here, I especially recommend checking out the flounder gathering.
