I couldn't find a room in Sasebo, so I headed out to Hirado instead. They were very accommodating when I arrived super early, at 13:30, and let me into my room. They also offer a plan for one person, so I didn't have to pay double occupancy. It's within walking distance of town, though not right in the center, and the castle and other tourist spots are about 15 minutes away on foot. The food was great, with local fish, Wagyu, and lots of vegetables. Wi-Fi was solid, and the hard futon was what I expected. The view of Hirado Castle was epic. My one disappointment was that the onsen is only open in the evening, so there are no morning soaks. 🥲

The rooms were comfortable, and the service was really friendly. It's just a few minutes' walk from the main part of town. I'd stay here again.
