Iris Yu

The woman who runs the place, Iris? gave us a great suggestion for somewhere to eat. We felt very welcome at a small izakaya and were treated to such fine dishes. Thanks! It’s a sweet, authentic guesthouse, with soft futons and cozy tatami mats.

One of the few guesthouses right in central Hiraizumi. The owner is very friendly, and breakfast is delicious. The room with two futons is small, but really comfortable.

I was impressed by the down comforter. It was incredibly warm inside even with the heater off! Breakfast was satisfying, with a salmon omelet, salad on the plate, and plenty of other dishes. The shared bathroom was very clean, though I did wonder if I’d hear people walking around. 💦 The Japanese-style room itself was spacious and relaxing. I was looking for the cheapest hotel near the main theater and found this one for 7,700 yen, including a room and breakfast. It feels more like a traditional Japanese inn than a guesthouse.

The toilet and bath were clean, and it’s also close to Motsuji Temple. I was looking for somewhere to stay for a visit to Chusonji Temple, but the hotels I found were pretty expensive, so I chose this place. It was about 6,000 yen for a room without a bath or toilet. It works fine if you just need somewhere to sleep.
