Hirosima No Oyado Hostel

The extras are a nice touch: free ice cream, soft drinks, and breakfast breads. The massage chair was good value at 200 yen for 10 minutes. My complaints are minor, just the 2 inch futon and no shaving cream. Even with those, I’d give this place a 9.9 out of 10.

The rooms are small, as you’d expect, but I’m 183cm and had no trouble fitting. The location is really convenient, the amenities are quite good, and the staff were helpful. I’m extremely happy with the stay.

Check-in is at 3 pm and checkout at 12 noon. There’s free coffee, other drinks, and soft serve, and the place seems clean, almost like it’s new. It has all the facilities of a hostel and more, including laundry. Reception also gives you a free sachet of detergent. There’s a massage chair, too. It’s definitely good value for money, right outside the Hiroshima Train station. The pictures say it all. I think this place is really, really fantastic.

For about $19 US, this was a great stay. The capsules were quiet and comfortable, and the shower house was clean and well maintained. The location is hard to beat, about two blocks from the main train station, which also serves buses and trams. There’s a TV and counter in the lobby, along with coffee, tea, a microwave, and plenty of vending machines, including one that sells beer.
