Hotel S-Plus Hiroshima Peace Park

The room information under “Facility” said non-smoking, but I was given a smoking room. They told me that was what I had booked, though I’m sure I hadn’t. Every room was fully booked, so they couldn’t move me to a non-smoking one. I wonder if ome hotels in Japan let guests smoke in certain rooms. Be careful when booking here, since some rooms smell strongly of cigar.

The room was tiny, and I couldn’t open both of my big suitcases, but it wasn’t a big problem. It’s not the nicest hotel, though it’s really affordable. The TV, shower, and WiFi all worked well, and there’s a luggage area in the lobby where you can leave your bags safely.

This place is a bit dated, but it has the basics for a comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms had Japanese-style toilets with an older bidet system. You need to press and hold the button for the water to come out. There are coin-operated laundry machines on the 7th and 9th floors, plus ice dispensers and vending machines. The hotel is handy for Chuden-mae Tram Station, with several bus stops a short walk away, and you can leave your luggage before check-in or after check-out. Breakfast costs 500 yen, but you need to reserve it or pay a day ahead.

I found dried blood on the sheets even though they were supposed to be freshly cleaned. The bathroom also had mold, and the room was small and unhygienic.
