Mercure Tokyu Stay Hiroshima

The superior queen room is exceedingly small, though the rooms are clean and bright. Check-in was appallingly slow: several people were standing around reception while one person tried to serve guests. I know the hotel is new, but Mercure/Accor certainly isn’t; as a worldwide company, it should know better. Having staff, or perhaps a manager or assessor, stand by and do nothing wasn’t helpful. Someone experienced could simply acknowledge the wait, apologize sincerely, or say, “I’ll be with you soon.” A little courtesy would settle people, but it didn’t seem to be a focus in the hospitality training. This Mercure has a long way to go to match its fellow hotels. The rates aren’t low, so some real changes are needed.

The room was spacious, clean, and felt new. Having a washer-dryer in the room was really useful every day, though the bed sits higher than beds elsewhere. I’d heard the hotel was across from Candeo, and once nearby I spotted it right from the road, so it was easy to find. All the staff were kind, but the lobby felt cramped and hectic when it got busy. Even so, we’d like to stay here again next time we visit Hiroshima.

The new room was clean, and the staff were very kind. The washing machine was useful, and guests can use the lounge for free from 10:00AM to 10:00PM, which I liked. There was no water in the room, so after going out we always had to bring bottled water back from the convenience store. Breakfast was disappointing too, just a little more bread than the usual lounge food. Finding the hotel was a struggle because its location on Google Maps was so far off. We parked near the map pin and spent about 30 minutes walking around with heavy bags before finally spotting it on the main road. The hotel urgently needs to correct its map location.

The rooms are new and very clean, though some apparently don’t come with water. The microwave and washer-dryer were very handy. Beds are soft and plush rather than firm. Rooms other than the larger ones have no view, and if you skip housekeeping, you have to collect towels from the front desk yourself. Free soft drinks are available from 10:00 to 22:00. There is one Korean male staff member.
