Hotel Kazahaya

The rooms are beautiful, huge, and had everything I could want. I was traveling on my own, though I can imagine it being lovely for couples too. Mao was a really cool host, and it was nice meeting him. I was lucky enough to have the private pool to myself all day. I’d happily return if I get the chance, especially to spend more time reading in the library/lounge.

The adjoining restaurant served a divine dinner, and the service there was excellent too. The hotel's rooms and location deserve five stars, while the service gets six.

Our western-style room was spotless and had its own bathroom, and it was huge by Japanese standards. This small family-run hotel made us feel very welcome. Mr. Mao speaks English well and is thoughtful and friendly, and he gave us suggestions for local sights and places to eat. We'd stay here again.

The hotel is in the pleasant Mameda-machi area, with plenty of cafes, shops, and restaurants close by. The owner speaks English, which my non-Japanese husband always appreciates when we visit. We've stayed here several times with family and have always had a lovely time. It's clean, well cared for, and has a nice onsen, good food, and wonderful hospitality. Although it isn't advertised as child-friendly, they made it comfortable for everyone, including my small children when we were there. We always make a point of visiting when we're in Japan, and I'd recommend it to anyone.
