The living and dining area was the highlight for me. It felt peaceful and restorative, and I could imagine opening the balcony doors and spending an afternoon reading. Even after one night, I wished I could stay longer in that quiet, zen atmosphere. For the price, the space and comfort felt like remarkable value, more like an apartment-sized suite than a standard room. We had a Western-style room with beds, but futons were in the closet, and there was a full tatami room with room to lay them out. The included onsen was well maintained and had a pleasant scent. They also provided shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, slippers to keep, and yukata for wearing around the hotel. Parking is limited, which might matter in a busy season, though it was fine for us. Staff have limited English. We know enough Japanese that this wasn't hard for us, but visitors who don't may want to prepare. We left relaxed and well rested. I'd recommend Shimoda Bay Kuroshio for its calm, spacious stay and good value.

The dinner alone would have cost as much as our entire stay back home. It featured a variety of local seafood and ingredients, prepared beautifully. The hotel suits people who know Japanese hospitality or want to experience it. It was a bit much for my husband, who is Western and new to it, but the staff were patient and accommodating despite our poor Japanese. The decor is unusual, with exposed concrete and decorative poured patterns that remind me of a certain era. I liked its uniqueness. The location was great, the staff excellent, and the onsen had wonderful views. I enjoyed my stay a lot.

The food was incredible and reasonably priced, and the staff were really friendly and helpful, especially with the shuttle buses. We spent two nights and three days at this beautiful hotel. The kids loved the pool, and being allowed to keep swimming after checkout was amazing service. ❤️

During busy holidays, it's hard to use ofuros without staying at a hotel, so we came here for a bath. There was no rotemburo, or outdoor bath, and the bathing area was quite small. We usually go to better places.
