The spot is handy for surfing and other sea activities, and our stay with breakfast felt like a good deal for a simple, dorm-style place. The main frustration was the bath schedule. It can fit a family, but nobody was assigning reservation times. A staff member said it was fully booked that day and asked us to watch our timing. I was surprised, since places in Japan usually ask about bath times when you arrive, and felt managing that should be their job. Breakfast was simple and tasty, with generous help-yourself rice, soup, and coffee. That good coffee definitely lifted my impression. I also appreciated seeing an older couple running the place and can only respect their hard work. A morning walk by the ocean was a lovely start to the day.

The people running the hotel were so welcoming, and they even offered to keep our bags there for a few hours after checkout. We were also glad to find a free onsen. It was a little too hot for us, but still a nice extra. The beach is only about a five-minute walk away. Our room looked out over the sea, and the sunrise was amazing if you got up early. The TV was tiny and the WiFi quite weak, though neither spoiled a really enjoyable stay.

The patio was a highlight, and our beds were comfortable. The AC worked, the onsen was clean and HOT, and we had a window seat with a pleasant ocean view. Getting to Shirahama beach took just 3-5 minutes on foot. Parking was on site, down a steep hill, but worked out well. The hotel itself is showing its age, with peeling wallpaper and worn carpet. Still, for the price, I’d probably stay again if we came back to the beach.

The Japanese breakfast that came with the stay was quite an experience. Our room was cozy and a little dated, but had an authentic feel. The hotel sits just above the beach, about a five-minute walk down to the sand. The staff were very friendly and did their best to help and show us things, even though their English wasn’t very strong. The train station is around 15 minutes away by car or bus number 9.

The room was roomy, and the view from our ocean-view booking was incredible. Breakfast was delicious, including dried Aji served on a hot plate, and the staff were very nice. The one thing that bothered us was the lack of a non-smoking room. There wasn’t even an air freshener to help with the smell.
