Business Hotel Tontei

The building and facilities are a little dated, so it may not be for you if that bothers you. I had no problems at all, though. It's an older hotel right next to Izukyu-Shimoda Station, and the location and price are great.

August 2025. I arrived after 9pm and was greeted by a security-looking man, maybe the night-shift worker. He was polite, kind, and helpful, which put me at ease. The musty smell hit me as soon as I opened the door, disappointing after I'd chosen a non-smoking room. The room itself was well cleaned, with Febreze and disinfectant spray, so I figured the odor was just from old furniture. The curtains and unit bathroom were clean. Toiletries came in individual packets, tea bags were provided, and there were paper cups and a decent hair dryer. The air conditioner compressor was noisy, and the pillow was too flimsy to be useful. The bed was the worst part. I was only there to sleep and made do, but I didn't expect a single bed to make sleeping so difficult. If you can sleep on any bed, this place isn't bad at all. I really do love it.

I needed somewhere to stay overnight on short notice, and the reasonable price made this a good fit for one person. I could come and go whenever I wanted, so there was no need to watch the time.

The front desk person had the air of a security guard and was polite and kind, though he spoke a little haltingly. Honestly, I found myself wondering whether I was really staying in this room.
