Hyuga Dai-ichi Hotel

The price was reasonable, and honestly I feel I shouldn't complain, but the service was appalling enough that I won't stay here again if I visit Hyuga. It's a very dated hotel, the rooms smell musty, and even though we booked non-smoking rooms, the common areas reeked of smoke. Parking costs 500 yen. Breakfast was decent, with a choice of Japanese or Western style, but the chef was extremely rude. He yelled at us when I asked him to repeat a sentence one more time. Japanese isn't my first language. I only needed him to repeat the question so I could translate it accurately for the group on his behalf. I wasn't asking him to speak English. I could understand him, though clearer enunciation might have helped. We were guests, and I couldn't understand being treated so crassly.

A terrible stay. The rooms smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and the deodorizer they provided didn't get rid of it. I was awake for pretty much the whole night because of the odor.

Friendly staff, and the room was a typical size for a Japanese hotel. The facilities aren't new, but they're well maintained and clean. Good value for the money.

The staff were great, and the hotel was lovely, right by the sea.
