The one drawback to remember is that this ryokan is meant for using the onsen instead of your room shower. The hot water in the room takes a loooong time. Otherwise, the service was IMPECCABLE, the food PHENOMENAL, and the onsen was at the perfect temperature. We stayed three nights and had dinner and breakfast there each day. Every meal was different, with amazing local ingredients, and I could wax poetic about the food all day. It felt like upscale Japanese service and dining, like going to a top restaurant and sleeping there. I can see why this place was ranked among Japan's top 100 hotels/ryokans in 2024.

A few drawbacks: there’s no elevator service to the reception or onsen floor. On the plus side, you get a sauna, cold bath, hot spring, evening self-service tea, and a foot sand bath. And, of course, the food is part of the draw. The course dinners have several choices, and the feast is glorious if you stay a night or longer. Its cooking has been in the top 3 for decades, which makes sense after eating here. Thanks as well to the ever-cheerful Sarina, who speaks Nepalese, Japanese, and English.

The food was the best ever, truly top quality, and the staff were really nice and welcoming to foreign visitors. This was my first stay at such a highly ranked hotel, and I think it really deserves the Top 1 in Japan. I’ll definitely recommend friends visit.

Staying in the traditional-style hotel brought back a sense of nostalgia, and everyone in my family enjoyed it. “Nakaisan” was especially friendly to us. The staff arranged the sunaburo (hot spa in sand) ahead of time, which was very helpful. I got to experience sunaburo for the first time with my son and feel the power of the earth.

The food was easily the best I've had in Japan. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I had a great time and a wonderful experience here. Excellent all around. I hope I can come back one day!
