The lake and mountain views are special. On clear days you can see across to Togari Onsen and the distant ranges, and from the lake side you look out over the frozen lake and nearby mountains. The rooms are beautiful, the location is stunning, and the onsen is excellent. I like the hotel, but wouldn’t choose it again for a ski or snowboard trip. There’s no on-site laundry, so washing clothes means spending hours travelling into town. Only four machines are available there, and they may all be in use, which could cost you most of a day. It’s hard to understand why the hotel can’t fit a couple of washers and dryers, since that would make snow trips much more practical. The staff are helpful, but the shuttle schedule is very limited and adds to the inconvenience. With laundry on site, this would be a great place to stay if you have a car.

The quiet, beautiful setting was a real gem, and we’ll definitely be back. Staff picked us up from Iiyama Station, let us check in early, and arranged a daily shuttle to Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort as well as evening trips to the village. The hotel was perfectly clean and everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The open-air onsen was especially lovely after a day on the slopes. They even helped us book a Snow Monkey Park tour. Highly recommend!

Hokuryoko Hotel sits beside a beautiful lake, with a calm, peaceful atmosphere. It’s about a 10-minute drive to Nozawa Onsen Village, and there were no crowds, so I felt like I had the place to myself. The hotel is clean, modern and well maintained, and my room was spacious and comfortable with plenty of room to relax. Both the indoor and outdoor hot springs were highlights, very relaxing and well kept. If you want a quiet retreat with excellent amenities, Hokuryoko Hotel is a great choice. Highly recommended!

We stayed 6D5N and had a fantastic time at Hokuryko Hotel. It’s a quaint retreat with easy access to the slopes, and a good balance between skiing and visiting Nozawa Onsen town. The shuttle picked us up at 9pm to return to the hotel for a relaxing onsen soak. The crew gave exceptional service and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The manager showed great hospitality, switching between cashier, driver and receptionist. Shuttles to Iiyama Station took 10-15 minutes, and there was service to the main slope at Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort. We loved the rotating male and female onsens, which let us try both. Rooms with personal showers are available, but we preferred the public hotel showers and used those daily. There’s a drying rack and ski gear storage near the lobby. The only minor issue was language: they use translation apps, though the crew is improving their English. A wonderful mix of comfort, convenience and hospitality!
