Sawaki

The breakfast was a highlight for me, with lots of things I hadn't tried before. We stayed while cycling the Shimanami Kaido, and they easily let us keep our bikes inside overnight. The place was peaceful and spacious, and the friendly staff were patient with our questions. Everything was clean and well maintained. It seems like a suitable ryokan for first-timers.

We stayed for two nights on our cycling trip. Our room, “Fuji,” was huge and spotless, with a newly renovated en-suite bathroom. The staff were very friendly. We did our best in Japanese, and the owner knew some English. Bikes can be parked indoors on a rack, and there was a whole set of tools, lube, pumps and rags, anything you might need for your bike. The washer was free and the dryer cost 100 yen. Breakfast was very good, typical Japanese food. We also had dinner once. It was reasonably priced for the quality, and delicious. The common areas were old school and quaint. Sawaki luggage forwarding worked without a hitch. The town was cute, with a brewery, a few restaurants, a Lawson across the street, a little shrine and a sea salt factory nearby. We were lucky enough to catch the cherry blossoms in bloom, too.

Chiezo checked us in and was so kind and accommodating. Since we were on a bike tour, having a secure place to leave our bikes overnight, with different tools available if needed, was much appreciated. The breakfast was a perfect start to the day and well worth trying. This was our first ryokan on the trip, and Sawaki set the bar high. We had a wonderful stay.
