Toshi was a responsive and very helpful host. We only had time to try the wood heated outdoor bath during our stay, but after a long day of driving it was just what we needed to unwind. The setting is beautiful and scenic, far enough from the city to get a clear view of the stars at night. The traditional Japanese home is lovely and can fit a large group. We had a great time, easily 10 out of 5 stars. If we come back to the area, this will be our first choice.

What made the stay so special was the old, renovated house beside the hostel, where the owner toshi has set up a place to watch movies and shows. We had the whole place to ourselves, and between that and the Finnish sauna and huge cedar firewood-heated bath, it was such a unique experience. The hostel also has local businesses with really good food. We bought a bag of bagels with 11 varieties, and every one was delicious, along with apples from a local orchard. The owner of the business came in especially to bring us the apples and explain the different varieties. I’ve never had that kind of personal service before. I came to Ina looking for an authentic Japanese experience, and this was the first place where I found it. I loved staying in akaishi shouten and highly recommend it.

A charming little guesthouse set among fields and farmhouses, with old, authentic family homes and a bookshop. There’s also a barn turned into a cinema room. Everything has a traditional Japanese feel, and a lovely couple runs the place.

The sauna is beautiful and feels amazing! You can relax in the hammocks and reclining chairs, and the daily lunch and coffee stalls are always delicious. They also hold all kinds of events, from film screenings to music events. I hope you get to experience the fun of Akaishi Shoten, something you couldn’t experience in a lifetime. The owner is the best too!

I stopped in for lunch and really liked the food. The interior was comfortable, and they showed me around the private sauna and movie theater. It feels like a hub for the local area. There were a few families with kids there too, so I was glad to find such a great place. They’re planning a treehouse, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next. I rated it four stars since I only had lunch, though it’s almost a five-star place.
