YUYUTEI

The inn’s staff were kind, and the room had enough space for the four of us during our one-night stay after a fun day at Hawaiians. We had breakfast included, but the bathroom was dirty and clearly hadn’t been cleaned. I arrived right on time, yet the grilled salmon, probably the main dish, was thin and cold. In fact, everything was cold, which was a letdown.

I nearly got hit by a car because people were sitting and hanging around in the road. In the morning and evening, around 20 Vietnamese foreigners gather near the entrance and at the annex diagonally across from it. Some come out of the main building shirtless, and they cross the street without waiting for cars. I don’t know if they’re employees, but the hotel should do more to keep people from congregating there. It creates a bad atmosphere.

The outside looked better than what we found indoors, though there’s a nostalgic Showa-era retro feel to it. Yuyutei got our yukata order wrong despite our online reservation, apparently without checking the slip. There were three women and one man, but we received two men’s yukata and just one women’s. The futons had been set out, but the brown blanket was covered in other people’s hair and seemed unsanitary. The bathroom was the same. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the meal either. On January 1, 19, I visited this ryokan in Iwaki Yumoto for a day-use bath, and it was nice that they were open on New Year’s Day. Entry costs 500 yen, with bathing from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The sulfur-containing sodium chloride and sulfide spring was at an excellent temperature. The ryokan itself was quite nice and clean. I recommend it.
