The value was incredible, though I can’t say whether I happened to get a special deal. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels, and I’d put this one around 8.5 to 9.0, so its 7.7 on Booking.com feels unfair. The hotel is from the bubble era and clearly old, which must make it hard to maintain, but my room was great, the food was good, and the staff were fantastic.

The food wasn’t that good, and the onsen was just average. Still, the room was very big by Japanese standards, and we could watch a fireworks show from it at night. The swimming pool was great, including the outdoor pool. It’s near the lake, and parking is free.

It’s a little out of the way, so you definitely need a car to get around. We also couldn’t walk along the lake because the path was being repaired after the earthquake, which was unfortunate. Our room had a very good view of the Japanese Alps and was big enough for three people. The hotel is old, but well maintained.

The staff were really helpful and friendly. Our spacious room looked out over the padi fields, which reminded me of home, since we grew padi in parts of Malaysia.

The place is set up well for events, with impressive rooms for meetings and conferences, as well as production rooms. There are also great restaurants, very spacious rooms, amazing swimming pools, bars, a karaoke room, and a breathtaking onsen. The hotel has an outstanding structure. Outstanding.
