Kakegawa Grand Hotel

The beds were comfortable, and I had no major problems. My room was quiet, as was the neighborhood, apart from the cicadas. The location is great. The lobby looks nicely updated, but the rooms feel like stepping back to the 1970s or early 80s. They still use keys, which you put in a holder to turn on the room's power. The environmental controls work, but they're weak and could be stronger.

My aunt can enjoy the rest of her trip to Japan thanks to the staff. Around 11 PM on December 4, she accidentally dropped her hearing aid into the sink. The staff came to the room quickly despite the late hour, took the sink apart, and retrieved it. My parents and aunt had already found the hotel friendly and pleasant when they checked in. I'm very grateful to everyone who helped so promptly.

On a business trip to Shizuoka in February, I checked into the Kakegawa Grand Hotel and found my Junior Suite dirty throughout. There was nearly a centimeter of dust on the lights above the bed, which clearly hadn't been cleaned for months. I'm allergic to dust, so I immediately told the staff. They said they'd clean it the next day. When I asked to change rooms or receive any other compensation, they declined with a smile. Zero stars for service. I can't recommend staying here.

The view from the Chinese restaurant on the top floor is superb, and it's a great place to unwind after sightseeing. The staff were friendly, and the location in Kakegawa is great. My room was a little old but comfortable enough, with a good bed. There wasn't any coffee in the room.
