Souka is a small, quiet guesthouse by the Sazu River, facing the Sea of Japan. It has just six rooms, with comfortable Japanese-style rooms that include a kotatsu. The carefully chosen hot spring and meals centered on Kasumi crab are a big part of its appeal, along with treats like Tajima beef, abalone, and blackthroat seaperch. The landlady arranges flowers with care, and the homey hospitality made me feel as if I’d returned to my hometown. It’s conveniently located, just a 3-minute walk from JR Sazu Station. For some reason, the crab here tastes better to me than crab dishes elsewhere. That’s why I always come back during Kasumi crab season. Every dish is delicious, and having a private bath for each room is a nice touch. Meals are served in private rooms too, so you can enjoy the crab without worrying about other people. The food was so good, and there was so much of it that I couldn’t finish. You can feel the care in the hospitality throughout. It was well worth the price, and I was very satisfied ✨✨.

It had been several years since my last stay. The room was clean, but the hot spring bath only fits about 2-3 people. It’s locked for private reservations, so you may have to wait if you arrive at the wrong time. The duvet cover is too short, too. If you’re over 170cm tall, your feet will stick out. They might want to reconsider the cover size.
