The kids room was a real highlight for my daughter, especially the little ball pit and toy kitchen. There was also art stuff, play equipment for different ages, and a small couch where cartoons were projected. It was open from 3pm to 9:30pm. We felt very well looked after as a family. The room was set up with a portable basin and soap for washing baby bottles and utensils, and they lent us a lovely quality stroller when we asked. Our child also got a little hotel pack with slippers. One of the reception staff kept making her smile from check-in through check-out, which made the whole stay feel special. The food was fantastic, with chefs serving at the main counter and other self-service stations around the dining room. They also prepared food specifically for my daughter, which was so convenient. The facilities were clean, the staff were friendly, and the relaxing atmosphere suited all of us. This was easily my favorite hotel experience in Japan so far, and I hope we can come back.

The service was what really set this stay apart. The staff were incredibly kind and seemed committed to making things easy for us. They printed four maps for our hike, walked us over to the free shuttle because it was some distance away, and even printed the weather forecast. There were plenty of other thoughtful touches too. The buffet was the best I've had, with lots of choices and three specials prepared right in front of you. Our room was spacious, and the onsen was nice as well. I honestly don't understand how this hotel doesn't have all five-star reviews.

We made use of the station pickup, and each of us also received a 5K yen coupon while we were there. We exchanged ours for free lift tickets to Zao onsen ski resort, which was a great bonus. Our Japanese-style room was quiet and spacious, and we really enjoyed both buffet meals. Breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious. The large onsen included an outdoor bath, and everyone on staff was welcoming and friendly. We stayed two nights and would happily do it again.

The outdoor bath and the food made this feel like a once-in-a-lifetime stay. There were so many enjoyable things around the hotel, and the fridge was stocked with drinks so we wouldn't be short of anything during the night. Tsukioka Hotel felt like a home away from home.

The buffet and bath house were both great, and Kaminoyama castle is right nearby. The rooms were clean, though the bathroom wallpaper was peeling. Staff were extremely friendly. If you want somewhere to unwind away from the big-city bustle, this is a lovely place to relax.
