The house we rented in Kanazawa was incredible, with everything we needed and more. Check-in was quick and smooth, and we heard no noise at all on the quiet street. A Family Mart is just a few minutes away. It was a bit of a walk to many parts of Kanazawa, but the accommodation was so good that I was happy with the distance.

Kanazawa was beautiful, and the gold leaf ice cream is worth trying. The room was lovely, with unique decorative "Tamari" balls all around. Heated floor tiles and heated tatami felt great in the cooler weather, and the bathroom was big with a wooden bath. It's a bit of a walk to the main sights, but local buses come fairly regularly and Family Mart is three minutes away. The one downside was the old, unkempt neighborhood around it. The view from the window shade looked onto what seemed like a trashy vacant lot, so keep the shades closed. Still, highly recommended.

We also had the Tea Ceremony in the machiya, and the tea master's sharing was moving and educational. The bathtub was a great extra, and the place is a short walk from Higashi-chaya with several local buses serving it. Across the road, Kisaragi is a great izakaya. The only things missing were a microwave and a small garden. It was a lovely escape in a beautifully decorated and fitted machiya. It delivered exactly what the pictures showed.
