Kanazawa Yuwaku Onsen Yunode Ryokan

The food was the highlight for us. Dinner and breakfast used fresh local ingredients, including their signature Yuzu, and tasted comforting, professional, and really good. There was plenty of it, so don't eat too much before dinner. We arrived on a rainy night, and a woman from the staff came to meet us, even though the bus stop was only a two-minute walk away. Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic. The gentle woman serving dinner was especially lovely, and made the whole meal feel relaxed and well organized. We felt well looked after. When we checked out, we were about to miss the bus, which would have meant waiting another hour. Almost the whole staff helped us catch it, including one woman who ran ahead to flag down the driver. It was so heartwarming. We tried another well-known onsen hotel in Kyoto, but it felt more like a business operation: decent food, polite staff, and nice facilities, without the warmth we found at Yunode.
