The room was clean, and the drive to places like Konpira and Chichibugahama Beach was reasonable. There aren’t many restaurants nearby, though, and with no road sign for the hotel I wasn’t sure when to turn into the parking lot. The amenities were sparse: no tea or coffee, and I had to ask reception for a kettle.

The staff at reception were friendly and supportive, and I felt welcome as soon as I walked in. The rooms were clean, nicely fitted out, and well maintained. The duvet was incredibly soft and fluffy, and the linen quality could hold its own against some five-star hotels. For walkers on the pilgrimage, it’s reasonably priced and good value. Hama sushi and a laundrette are right next door, and there’s a great roast chicken shop about a 5-10 minute walk away. Walkers might want to visit temples 68 and 69 before coming back, which puts you in a better spot for the next morning. Breakfast was an unusual mix: omelette, scrambled eggs, small sausages that were sort of like frankfurters, chips, and udon with hot or cold broth. It had the feel of a standard business hotel breakfast, tasted decent, and seemed fair for the price. I’m not complaining, just describing the options in case they haven’t changed.
