We stopped in just for a meal. The fish and locally gathered mountain vegetables were so good, and there was plenty of food. This inn and restaurant is linked to a sweetfish farm tucked deep in the mountains. Meals are mostly sweetfish and Katsuyama salmon, a clear-water salmon, and they apparently have wild boar too, depending on the season.
We came from Saitama to visit the Dinosaur Museum, and the hotel staff made a stressful morning work out. My son and I were told by the front desk around 8:30 that our rental car had a flat tire. We'd rented it near Komatsu Airport, but the rental company was still closed, and our museum reservation was between 9 and 10. We were worried we'd miss it and even wondered how we'd get home. The staff called a gas station, took the tire there to be repaired, and put it back on the car. I think the whole thing took about 30 minutes. We reached the Dinosaur Museum safely around 9:30 and could enjoy the visit without worrying about the tire. I don't think a business hotel would have handled it that way. I'm so glad we stayed here, and really grateful. The food was filling and everything tasted good. The amago dishes, including washed amago, grilled amago, and young amago tempura, were great. My favorite was the bracken salad, the best bracken I've ever had. My son usually eats little, but he loves fish and ate about twice as much as usual. If we visit the Dinosaur Museum again, we'll stay here again. Next time I want to try the plan with lots of sashimi.
The course came with two grilled salted amago trout, but I still wished there had been more. They were plump and satisfying, and I could eat each one from head to tail. Really delicious.
The rice, cooked with spring water, was soft, sweet, and delicious. I also loved the sweet potatoes, mountain vegetables, and pickles. Best of all was the whole grilled salted amago trout, which I ate head and all. Its aroma and sweet-tasting flesh made it a real treat, and I'd happily come back to eat it again. Definitely a restaurant I'd visit again, and one I'd recommend.
Dinner was an all-you-can-eat trout meal, with salted grilled trout, washed trout, and tempura. The simmered dishes were good too. The building is old but clean, and the staff are very friendly. There's a trout fishing pond near the inn if you want to fish. The road by the window is apparently restricted, and some navigation systems show a warning. Google Maps couldn't find a route from the inn to other places when I checked. My low-cost Docomo SIM had no signal around the inn, but the rooms in the main building had Wi-Fi, so I could get online.
