The room was comfortable and roomy, and the view from our Luxury Twin - Mt Bandai side was spectacular, looking out toward Mt. Bandai and the Yarokunuma. The staff were warm and welcoming without hovering. The restaurant host recognized us right away and greeted us without needing to ask our room number. I loved the onsen, with its nice view and hardly anyone there. Towels were already inside, so we could just stroll over and enjoy it. The restaurant and onsen are each on a half floor that the lift doesn’t reach directly, though wheelchair lifts are available for both. The location is excellent for Goshikinuma. One trail entrance is within walking distance, and that side has the prettier ponds. We had some peaceful walks and lots of photo chances, but watch out for bears and bugs. My family spotted a bear, and we got bitten by so many bugs! Food was the one part we weren’t keen on. Over two nights we tried both French and Japanese dinners, plus American and Japanese breakfasts. My family and I thought it was only alright, including the French wine pairing. If choosing, I’d go with the Japanese meal.

A great winter stay, with beautiful views and newly done rooms. The indoor and outdoor onsen were both lovely, and the five colour ponds are very close. Dining felt upscale, the food was luxurious, and service was five star.

Beautiful, nourishing meals made with the freshest ingredients and welcoming, professional service. The view from the room was breathtaking, with the 1816m urabandai mountain in sight. I’d definitely recommend staying here to experience the beauty of Fukushima Tohoku Japan 💛

I’ve stayed at many onsen resorts, and I judge a ryokan by three things: its history, its dinner, and its rooms. A place may be old, legendary, or famous. Dinner should be more than tasty, it should use fresh ingredients, be prepared by a qualified chef, and come with thoughtful service. And since you spend the night in the room, it should be spacious and have updated equipment. Urabandai gohen hotel earned my five stars on all three points. If you have lots of resort options but want a place to stay in Urabandai, choose a room here. I’m from Taiwan, and I like this place.

I had a wonderful stay. The staff were so friendly and attentive, and I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
