Candeo Hotels Kobe Torroad

We booked three rooms for seven people and were due to return to this hotel two days later. At the front desk, we asked to leave three pieces of luggage there in the meantime. A male staff member with glasses refused in a cold, unhelpful way and said they could only keep two items, despite our three-room booking. He didn't use even basic polite expressions like “please wait a moment.” After more than ten years of traveling in Japan, I've never run into a policy that seemed so unreasonable. The next morning, a female staff member, who was much more polite and professional, asked why we'd left only two items. That made me wonder what the hotel's standards are. The room had several problems too. The toilet hadn't been cleaned properly and smelled noticeably of urine. The AC's broken directional flaps meant we couldn't change the airflow, so it blew straight at the bed and made sleeping uncomfortable. It was also far too noisy, with water-flow sounds all night. A wall-mounted split AC should be nearly silent. The bedside lamp control was broken, so we couldn't adjust its brightness, and the wallpaper was peeling in several places, with mildew or signs of neglect on parts of the wall. This stay left us frustrated. Between the service and the poor upkeep, it's hard to believe the hotel is being run with care or professionalism. I wouldn't recommend it.

We were promised a refund for the last two days, but five months later it still hadn't arrived. This followed our August 2025 stay at Kobe Tor Road. The room was damp, moldy, and unsanitary. Staff tried to find us a room without the damp and mold, but every one they showed us had the same problem. We moved to another hotel the next day after being told we'd get those two days refunded.

We really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were spacious, the view was great, and the open-air sento was a highlight. The location was convenient too.

The rooftop baths were a real treat, and I loved being able to watch trains pass right outside. You can hear them from the room, but they mostly stop before midnight, so the night was quiet. Breakfast was very good, with a nice mix of Japanese and Western food, and everything tasted pretty good. I stayed for one night with my wife. The room had a modern design and plenty of room for our bags. The check-in felt rushed, and at breakfast we were seated away from everyone else in a somewhat odd spot. We were the only Westerners there, so I did wonder if that was why, though I could be reading too much into it.
