The campsite seems to be the only part open lately, and wild boars have badly torn up the grounds around the tent area. The pond is frozen, but stepping onto it feels a little scary.

We had a nice BBQ after the typhoon on 2017-09-18, even though some people had to cancel. Earlier, on 2017-04-29, we enjoyed the baths and BBQ at a day-trip event. The mountain wind left me chilled, but the bath warmed me right up. When I went back on 2017-06-25, the rare Shichidanka flowers were blooming.

The food was the one thing that made those days easier. Back when the YMCA ran a university prep school in Kansai, I ended up at this seminar house on Mount Rokko for a last-minute training camp for the National Center Test for University Admissions. This was decades ago, at year’s end, and I had to do radio calisthenics and run in freezing weather. I studied around 16 hours a day, with time only for sleep, meals, and a bath. The facility was new then, and the food was delicious, so I could study hard and still feel comfortable. By the time I got home, New Year’s was long over. My mother made me osechi ryori, traditional New Year’s dishes, to reward me for all that effort, and I ate it in tears. It was a rough time, but one I remember fondly.

The accommodations were comfortable, with towels, toothbrushes, and hairdryers provided. The view was amazing, the food tasted great, and the staff were really nice.
