The indoor bath is set to a comfortable temperature, while the outdoor one is much hotter, in a good way. The spring water is rich in minerals but gentle on the skin. I like mineral hot springs, though some can be a bit caustic for sensitive skin. This one felt good on my skin. A fantastic hot spring!

We stopped in for an onsen after visiting Mt Aso, and it was a great way to finish the day. The sulfur smell and wisps of hot steam added to the atmosphere.

The entrance looks a bit old, but the baths are fantastic. The onsen is in a newer building, very clean and nicely presented. Admission was 500 yen per adult and 400 yen per child. The water is naturally heated and very hot, just right after a hike.

It's in a rather dated hotel, but the day-use onsen is good value at 500 JPY. The indoor and outdoor baths are medium-sized and quite hot. Shampoo, soap and a hairdryer are provided, and the receptionist was very nice.

We were very happy with our spacious, new Sensui (Sensui） room, where we stayed three nights. The meals were a mixed bag: dinner portions were large and the food was okay, though not the best we'd had. Breakfast was small and mediocre. At HKD 3000+ per night with half board, it wasn't particularly good value, but we were happy with the stay overall.
