Yamasakiya Ryokan

The dinner was generous in both quality and quantity, just as other reviews said. This is a homey, very clean inn run by an elderly couple, now in its fourth generation. I’d like to come back.

The fluffy futon was comfortable, and I slept soundly. The women-only restrooms and sinks were very clean, which made the inn feel especially welcoming to women. There’s a shared refrigerator, microwave, and Tefal kettle, and thoughtful touches like these made me happy. I stayed the night before the Kozagawa cycling event. I’m a fan of minshuku, and this one was more than good enough, honestly the best. The landlady was so kind and fun to talk with, and her hospitality made the place relaxing. Dinner had a wide range of dishes and was very filling. I was impressed by how carefully it had all been prepared, and everything tasted great. I usually eat a lot but couldn’t finish, so I had the delicious mixed rice for breakfast. I left early for the event, and they looked after my backpack so I could finish the ride safely. I enjoyed the scenery around Kozagawa, and it became a great memory. Next time I’d like to go canoeing on the Kozagawa River. I’m planning to take part in next year’s cycling event too, so I’ll be back.

I got there late, around 7 p.m., without a reservation, but the owner, a grandmother, welcomed me and I had a great time. The tatami room had that distinctive smell I love as a Korean. It feels perfect for a romantic getaway, and at night the stars are incredibly clear. If you want to experience the Japanese countryside, this is the place.
