Enraku

The fireworks were right outside the hotel and easy to watch from there. The staff brought us a ginger-like drink and blankets in case we got cold. The crab dinner was excellent, and the service was just as memorable. After walking from the station through snow, with it melting on my beanie, a staff member quickly brought me a towel. They were so kind and attentive. I really don’t understand how this is rated a 3-star hotel. I’d give it 5 out of 5.

Having a private outdoor bath overlooking the beautiful fall colors was the highlight for me. The room was quiet and comfortable, and both the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast felt luxurious. It was a splurge, but worth it. The resort has an older feel, though it’s meticulously maintained. We arrived too early to check in and left our bags; when we came back, they were already in our room. Check-in took a while, but our guest representative was friendly and patient, and we had tea and snacks while doing the paperwork. Enraku feels like a historic, stately oasis.

The sashimi was the best I’ve ever had, and all the food was fantastic. We also had beer and sake in the bar, where the staff were so friendly that they even said “Thank you” in our language. A lovely touch ;) Our room was cozy, with a breathtaking view over the river and mountains. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the baths were clean and lovely. We enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor ones.

We had two nights at Ryokan Enraku, with Kaiseki dinner and breakfast included. Unazuki onsen village was peaceful, serene and tranquil in winter. Such lovely nights there.
