Zentis Osaka

The quiet atmosphere made for the best sleep I've had since arriving in Japan more than a week earlier. We really enjoyed our one night at Zentis and would happily return. Our Corner Studio King was spacious, modern, and had a very comfortable bed. We arrived early, so they kept our bags until the 3pm check-in. When we came back, our luggage had already been taken to the room. The bar was relaxed and sophisticated, the cocktails were delicious, and the bartender was friendly and helpful. Breakfast comes as a complimentary buffet, with some items available to buy from a separate menu. We stuck with the buffet: steamed vegetables, pastries, fruit, cereal, and yogurt. We were glad we chose this hotel for our day in Osaka.

Room service was quick and efficient, but the place didn't work well for a family or a group of friends. The bathroom has a clear window, so there's little privacy while using it. Food costs extra and is expensive, and I found it hard to communicate with the front desk during my stay.

Kitashinchi has plenty of good restaurants, including nearby ramen and late-night sandwich spots. The hotel can also arrange luggage forwarding. It's a quiet neighborhood, though, so if you want to be in the middle of the action, Nanba may suit you better. Umeda and Yodoyabashi stations are about a 15-minute walk away; from Yodoyabashi, the Keihan line makes getting to Kyoto much faster and simpler than going through Shin-Osaka. The room was excellent overall, with good soundproofing, effective air conditioning, a strong shower, and reliable fast Wi-Fi. There’s an Apple TV for things like YouTube, plus Nespresso coffee and a complimentary choice of perfume in the common room. The new rooms feel unusually spacious for Japan and are carefully designed, with a premium feel. My one gripe was the air purifier and humidifier, which seemed like a cheap aroma diffuser. A proper Sharp or Panasonic unit would have been better. I thought it was good value, especially since a promotion gave me my third night free.

The bar is what made me fall for Hotel Zentis Osaka. Nori (Nori) and Yūri (Yuri) were warm, funny, attentive, and made the place feel like the heart of the hotel. On my first visit around 5 p.m., they made a cocktail to suit my taste. Each evening after that, they asked about my day, and we ended up talking about life in Europe and Japan, work, aesthetics, and the craft of making a great drink. It felt like a real friendship, and the bar gave me a sense of Osaka's spirit. The rest of the stay was lovely too. After a scorching day at Yumeshima, the Expo 2025 site, I slept better at Zentis than anywhere in Osaka or Kyoto. I even came back a week later. I arrived on a warm afternoon in early August, and the pale wood, clean lines, and soft natural colors inside had a Scandinavian feel. The lobby staff also pointed me to an excellent sushi restaurant about ten minutes away. I truly love this hotel.
