Hostel ilfaro Kurume

For backpackers exploring Kyushu, this Kurume hostel is worth considering if Fukuoka City rooms are too expensive. Tenjin station is about 40 minutes away. It’s not a capsule hotel, the rooms have a semi-independent setup. The showers were well cleaned, and breakfast was decent enough. Highly recommended.

Breakfast comes free, which was nice, and the service was friendly and available when needed. The rooms are compact but laid out efficiently, so it feels like good value for the money. The station is only a minute away, too.

The front desk staff were very friendly, though I found the kitchen staff less so. There was some street noise from the main road, but ear plugs took care of it. I still really liked this place, one of the best affordable hotels I've stayed at in Japan. Breakfast is what I'd change: the menu is set by the day, and I'd rather see both options offered every day so guests can choose.

The tatami setting was lovely, and the spacious place was exceptionally clean. I also liked the shared lounge for reading or relaxing, and getting there by train is easy. But light sleepers should think twice, since footsteps and snoring carried through. The room felt stuffy, too, with no air conditioning or even a fan. It's a boutique hostel right in the heart of the city.
