Lodge Charlie Brown

The owner was a lovely older man who went out of his way to make us comfortable, even driving us to the ski resort and train station. The house has lots of Snoopy and Charlie Brown things, and he’ll happily tell you about his passion for them if you ask. It’s a five-minute walk to the ski resort and three minutes to an onsen. The food exceeded my expectations by a lot. We had a really nice experience, and I’d recommend it.

The owner is very nice, but cleanliness was poor. The smell of cigarette smoke was everywhere, and the bedding had stains.

The owner is extremely friendly. If his schedule allows, he can drive you to Kagura skii resort or Echigo Yuzawa station. The area is quiet and good for resting, and the room stays warm because the heater works well. The room is old, and cleanliness may not be perfect, but for the price I found it acceptable. Dinner is good and filling, with soup, salad, a main and more. There seems to be a new restaurant nearby, too. For a shower, I’d suggest the short walk to the nearby onsen bath house.

This is an old-fashioned lodge run by a pleasant older owner. A lot of it is dated, and there’s only a shower. There is a home-sized bath, but it can’t be used. Still, the low price made it acceptable, and while places near Tashiro Station are often hard to book, I was able to get a room here. Wi-Fi worked fine, and it’s within walking distance of the ropeway. There’s a fridge, microwave, and hot water from an electric kettle, so I brought food and ate breakfast and dinner there. After one night, I left all my bags in a locker at Tashiro Station on the second day and took the bus from there to Echigo-Yuzawa Station when heading home. Booking directly by contacting the lodge seems cheaper than using Rakuten Travel.
