SUPER HOTEL Kushiro Kurogane

My room was tiny, but the bed was large and really comfortable, and both the room and bathroom were spotless. For a budget hotel, I was very happy with my stay and had no major complaints. Breakfast was included, though it only runs until 8:30. I went down around 8:20 and most of the food had already gone cold or soggy, sometimes both. If breakfast matters to you, get there early.

My wife and I would definitely come back to Kushiro. The hotel looked new, the toilet and bath setup was decent, the Wi-Fi was good and free, and the staff were friendly. The free bar shuts at 9 p.m. The morning buffet was so crowded there weren’t enough seats, so we took our food back to the room. There wasn’t much food left when we arrived, just four wieners, for example. I still grabbed plenty of plain and chocolate croissants, since there wasn’t anything else I fancied, and another guest gave me a look. I wanted to try the onsen, but I have to keep my hand wrap dry because of a broken finger.

I stayed at Super Hotel Kushiro on 21 March 2025, in Room 403, and had a terrible bedbug infestation. I was bitten over and over during the night, and my whole body was left with painful, itchy welts. I was still uncomfortable days later. The state of the room was unacceptable for any hotel, especially a reputable chain. I contacted management directly to ask for a refund and a resolution, but this has damaged my trust in their hygiene standards. Avoid it until they deal with the problem. No guest should have to go through this.

The natural onsen is small, and the rooms were very clean. I also liked the healthy breakfast, with a good variety of food and drinks. The price is very affordable for what you get, and the staff were kind and helpful. It’s close to the station, and the front desk has plenty of amenities, including pajamas and alternative pillows if you don’t like the one in your room. One of my best stays in Japan, and I highly recommend it in Kushiro.
