Hyatt Place Kyoto Hotel

The hotel makes luggage forwarding simple. They give you a QR code to enter your next destination details, then staff scan the new code to prepare the shipment labels. Everyone we spoke to was friendly. The room felt roomy even with both our medium and large Away suitcases open, and there was still space to walk around. We were on the fourth floor and didn’t hear the trains. The Marutamachi underground station is just steps away, four stops from Kyoto station. There are plenty of amenities, including a razor, body wash cloth, and lotion, with refills during the stay and extra items in the lobby. Bring your room mug down for free coffee there. There’s also a bakery connected to the lobby, along with lots of other bakeries nearby for breakfast. The first floor has two coin-operated washer-dryers, I believe. They’re often busy, and we heard the clothes may not dry properly, sometimes needing another ¥300 or so for an extra 30 minutes. We went to a public laundromat instead, which was quicker and took card or IC card.

The room had a fancy bidet, and guests could borrow umbrellas for free. Breakfast had an excellent selection. The front desk staff were welcoming and courteous, and I had a great stay.

We came back to Hyatt Place Kyoto this winter after our first visit last summer, and it’s become our regular choice in the city. The location makes getting around so easy, which is the main reason we returned. The hotel isn’t a luxury property, but it’s clean, comfortable, efficiently laid out, and has what travelers need. Breakfast is fresh and satisfying, and the staff stood out for being kind, attentive, and welcoming. The room was plenty big for two adults and a child, with no inconvenience. For the price, the comfort and reliability are excellent. We already know we’ll choose it again on our third Kyoto trip. Highly recommended.

I wouldn’t choose this hotel again in Kyoto. One bad experience with the laundry soured the rest of our stay, and for the price I don’t think it was worth it. Our clothes were still very wet after two dryer cycles. Just as our cycle ended, staff forced the dryer door open and put our damp clothes into plastic garbage bags to make room for another guest. They didn’t give us a chance to run another cycle. We were upset, and ended up hanging the wet clothes around the room overnight, with an unsatisfactory result. It felt unprofessional, and no one seemed to care. The rest was alright, though the hotel sits over the subway and you can hear the carts rumbling around 5 a.m. if you’re a light sleeper.
