Irori Kyoto Station Higashi-honganji

We had plenty of room for five people, and the price was very reasonable. The Japanese design felt classic and minimalist, and we slept well thanks to the quiet surroundings. Restaurants the staff suggested were only a 5-10 minute walk away and turned out to be excellent. The location was great, too.

The staff were friendly, and the location made getting around easy. We chose this hotel because it was near the station, and it managed to fit our family, two teenagers and all five of our bags, despite the limited space by Japanese standards. We found the self-service setup took some getting used to, since room cleaning isn't provided daily or every other day. You’re expected to manage things yourself, and the systems in Japan can feel pretty advanced if you’re not used to them. I’d suggest packing light and being ready to figure things out as you go. Still, we’d recommend this place for couples or families.

Our trip was cut short when our original flight was cancelled, so we lost one night of the stay. I had assumed we wouldn’t get a refund, but the owner or management kindly returned the money anyway. The apartment-style room had everything inside: a little kitchen, laundry area, bathroom, and big, comfy beds. It was one of the nicest places we’ve stayed, and I wish we could have stayed longer. The area was quiet, about a 5-10 minute walk from Kyoto station and near a bus stop, which we preferred using. Such a good stay. I can’t wait to come back for longer, and I’m grateful for how considerate everyone was.

It was a quiet, comfortable room, less than a 10-minute walk from the train station. They provided detergent and a washing machine, plus cooking utensils, cleaning supplies, and plenty of toiletries. The staff were polite and the service was good.
