Kyoto Tachibanaya Gion Yamashiro

The wood smell greets you as soon as you step inside, and it’s easy to settle in and relax. This renovated townhouse hosts just one group a day and has a kitchen with a decent supply of cookware and tableware, so it works for a longer stay. Staff only give you the information you need for your stay, without much hospitality. If you’re comfortable taking care of things yourself, I’d recommend it.

The renovation has made the guesthouse feel very new, while keeping the old house’s original structure and beams. It’s a great chance to experience traditional Japanese architecture in Kyoto. The bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and living room are all well equipped, and the wood and tatami smell lovely. 👍🏻

The location is amazing, right by the geisha district of Miyagawa-cho, which is a must-visit. The soy milk from the Chiyo Tofu shop next door is delicious, too. I’ll definitely stay here again next time.

I loved getting to stay in a clean, comfortable Japanese-style tatami room 😘 The cypress bathroom smelled wonderful, and having a bath there felt like such a treat 🛁
