The staff were extremely polite and welcoming, and the public bath was relaxing and well maintained. We had one of our best stays in Kyoto here. Rooms were clean, spacious and very comfortable, and the traditional Japanese breakfast and hospitality were amazing. Highly recommend it for an authentic Japanese experience.

We loved staying here, in this cool, hip part of Kyoto. The rooms are spacious, and the staff at Hirashin Ryokan of Kyoto are gentle and kind. Arigatou gozaimasu!

The staff make up the tatami and futons for you, and they’re incredibly helpful and gentle. The room is spacious, and sleeping that way gives you a typical Japanese experience. The hotel also has its own Onsen, with public baths. We loved it, though we know it won’t suit everyone. If you want the ordinary, look for an ordinary hotel.

The sento was peaceful and a lovely place to unwind. This is a very traditional spot, and the staff were helpful throughout. We had a great stay.

The bathroom smelled bad and had mold, and the room had hair and didn’t feel properly cleaned. There’s a small bath in the basement that couldn’t be used, and the larger one only ran cold water. I’ve stayed at plenty of ryokans, but this was the most disappointing experience, especially for the high price.
