Sotetsu Fresa Inn Kyoto Shijokarasuma

We had connecting rooms that were clean and quiet, though the bathrooms were small and the rooms weren’t spacious, which seems typical for Japan. Shared water and ice machines, washer-dryers, and plenty of free tea, coffee, shampoo, and moisturizer in the lobby were useful. The staff were friendly. The location is a real plus: a few minutes on foot to a Karasuma station and some bus stops, with Nishiki Market an easy walk away. Kyoto’s main shopping street, department stores, and lots of shops are just around the corner.

I spent three nights here and had a good stay. The area was quiet, and getting to the train and bus stations was easy. My room was decent and the bed was comfortable. The staff were very helpful with the list of my luggage deliveries.

Good value, with the subway and other key spots just steps away. The room was about the usual size for a business hotel.

I stayed at several hotels in the Sotetsu chain during my Japan holiday, and this one stood out for its location and service. They also keep the amenities well stocked. For finding it, another traveler’s directions helped: get off at Shinjo station, take the exit 4 lift to street level, turn left until you reach 7-11, then turn left again and walk a little to the entrance.
