The location is fantastic. Most of the shopping I wanted was under a 15-minute walk away, with plenty of food options nearby. There’s a bouldering gym a short walk away, and bars and nightclubs if you’re after nightlife. It’s on a main street, so buses and trains were easy to access. The staff were great. They spoke English well, helped me extend my booking, and sorted out issues quickly. The free beer hour each night was a nice way to meet other travellers. There’s also a kitchen with appliances, plus a fridge and freezer for storage. The rooms were mostly good, with pullout storage under the bed, a shelf above, and a couple of coat hangers. I spotted a small stain high on my wall because I’m a professional cleaner, though it was hard to notice. The iPods used as remotes didn’t work reliably, from what I heard from other guests too. They gave me an override and fixed it right away, but waking up unable to turn on your lights isn’t ideal. I heard complaints about the laundry as well: there’s just one washer-dryer combo per floor, and lots of people were waiting to use them. One more annoyance was the elevators. There are two, but they run on separate circuits and you have to call each one manually. That made waits longer, with elevators stopping on lots of empty floors. Even so, I’d recommend this place for Kyoto. I’ll come back if I stay in the city again.

I slept really well. The room gives you good privacy, and the adjustable bed and lighting are handy. The fan kept air moving, and even wet clothes dried completely overnight. The bed can lift itself to wake you up, which was so interesting. The public spaces are roomy and comfortable, with free tea, coffee, and ice, plus a sociable feel and a co-working area that suited remote work. The location is great too, on a central street in Sanjo, with the main shopping areas within walking distance and easy access to sights and other cities. Prices change depending on the date, but it was great value while I was there.

The pods were comfortable and easy to use with the iPods. There’s room for bags and jackets, a shelf and charging ports, and a small safe under the bed. The bathrooms and showers were very well kept. Useful extras included pajamas, towels, a hair brush, toothbrush, and slippers. It’s on a main road in central Kyoto and close to the river, but surprisingly quiet. The reception area feels calm, with seating and a co-working space offering water, tea, coffee, and more. All the staff were accommodating. Someone recommended the place to me, and I’d happily pass that recommendation on. Thank you!

The shared bathrooms and toilets were high quality and well looked after. There seemed to be bike storage on the roof, though I didn’t use it. The pods were excellent, with a double bed, air conditioning, unsecured luggage storage, and blackout blinds. Happy hour each day was a nice way to meet other travellers over a free drink. I’d highly recommend Millennials Kyoto for a more upmarket hostel stay in a great location.

The work area was the best part for me. There’s plenty of room and the internet is great, so I got a lot of schoolwork done. It feels more like a business hotel than a hostel, just without the sauna. They have a happy hour with free beer for guests. I don’t drink, but other people seemed to enjoy it. Breakfast was a bit limited, and it cost $3USD to buy it online. There’s free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, so I wasn’t too bothered. The hotel sits among all the shops, with lots of food and shopping options.
