The Royal Park Hotel Iconic Kyoto

The front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the hotel’s location was very convenient. Our room was spacious, and the complimentary tea, coffee, and desserts served on the second floor in the afternoons were a nice touch. Breakfast was decent, with more of a Western style. There were a few quirks. The sink and mirror were in the entry corridor rather than in the bathroom, which made the room layout feel strange. The bed’s sharp corners could be safer, and the hotel has only two laundry machines, which were almost always in use. Even with those drawbacks, we had a comfortable stay and the service was excellent.

We really wish we could have stayed longer. The lounge was a lovely bonus, with quiet, cozy moments and complimentary light food and drinks. Breakfast didn’t have a huge selection, but it was all fresh and delicious. We appreciated thoughtful touches like seating arranged toward the window, and staff guiding us through the choices when we had vegetarian or allergy needs. The welcome started before we arrived, with efficient email communication that made us feel cared for. A serious flight delay and traffic jam left us tired and worried on the way, but that all eased when we got to the calm atmosphere and smooth check-in. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They made warm hand-drawn cards for our parents’ anniversary and for us. We booked several rooms, all well designed and equipped with what we needed. I liked that the amenities came in a box tied with a bow. The pajamas were super comfortable, and the corner room had an amazing balcony overlooking Oike Dori. The trees were changing colors and made the view even prettier. Thanks to all the staff for making the stay so special.

We ended up back here after a really bad ryokan experience, and it felt like coming home. The location worked well for us, with a Lawson just across the road. Although the hotel is beside a major road, the noise didn’t bother us much. Our room was clean, roomy and comfortable, and the staff were warm and welcoming. We also had club lounge access on arrival day and enjoyed the very cute afternoon tea. Breakfast was the weak spot: the choices were basic, and as someone with dietary restrictions I could only find soup or fruit. The coffee was standard black coffee and there was black tea, which felt limited for a five-star hotel. Still, we were very happy with the stay.

What really stood out after checkout was the staff’s help: they noticed we’d left important things in the safe and arranged to send them to our next hotel. That saved us a lot of time and money, since otherwise we’d have had to go back for them. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious, modern and spotless, with comfortable huge beds, great pillows, quality toiletries and useful facilities, including an espresso machine. Lounge access was a nice bonus too, with free drinks and snacks during happy hour, and it was a relaxing place to sit before heading out into Kyoto. The metro is nearby, so getting around was easy. This was by far the most comfortable and pleasant hotel stay of our Japan trip. I’d highly recommend it.
