The free slippers, toothbrush, body soap and shampoo were nice, and you can cook there. But the room is small, the mattress is really uncomfortable, and I can’t recommend it in general. The hair dryer only works if you hold it together, and the air conditioner was so dusty that, with my dust allergy, I could barely stay there for long.

Good value for ensuite rooms, with a shared kitchen and dining space plus laundry facilities. It’s also conveniently located near a station and the castle.

A good budget hotel near a market, in an area with a very local feel. Nijo station is still about a 10-minute walk away.

I had a great four-day stay at Calm Castle Hotel Nijo. It’s only 600 meters from the nearest subway station, close to a convenience store, and well placed for visiting nearby attractions. The ground-floor kitchen was useful for making our own meals, and my room was clean, well kept and had what I needed. The staff were friendly and attentive. At first, I had trouble finding it on Google Maps because Booking.com listed the place under a different name, Miro Kyoto Nijo Hotel. Once I found it, everything went smoothly. It’s a really good mix of location, amenities and service for a Kyoto visit.
