Matsudo Grand Hotel

The room was warm, simple, and comfortable, and the front desk staff were really friendly. They spoke a little English, and had a card with English phrases to explain the policies. They asked me to return the key whenever I left the building, I guess because they were worried I’d lose it. The place was a good deal and served its purpose. I stayed to eat ramen, and it was close to the train station and some legendary ramen places. I had an enjoyable stay.

For a work trip the other day, I booked a non-smoking room through a travel site, but the room had a really strong cigarette smell. There were cigarette burns around the room and hair near the bed, so I wondered whether it had even been cleaned. I can put up with the smell for a little while, but sleeping there could have caused anaphylactic shock. I didn’t want to make trouble for the hotel, so I asked to cancel. They said they couldn’t refund the cancellation fee, and I reluctantly stayed somewhere else. Other hotels have been more accommodating and communicated well with the booking site, but this one didn’t. I’m sharing this in case someone else runs into the same problem. Despite how it looks from outside, this is a smoking-only hotel, and the room was covered in cigarette burns and smelled of smoke. It hadn’t been cleaned properly. Please be careful.

I haven’t actually used it yet because the water supply was shut off at the time. The receptionist was very helpful, though. A woman called on a weekday at around 3:30 PM.
