Fine Garden Matsuzaka II

I first stayed here, ran into several problems, and left a harsh one-star review. The hotel replied that it was working on improvements. Since then I’ve returned many times, and every issue I raised has been addressed, so I’ve updated my review. For the low price, the rooms are well cared for and the service is excellent. The facilities are present and working, which isn’t always the case at love hotels. I’d recommend it if you’re comfortable seeing other guests and can manage without an elevator. When I book at random, I often end up in room 301, which has a washer-dryer that I like.

The price felt high, and you really need to check the reviews and website carefully when booking somewhere rural instead of assuming everything is accurate. I booked a VIP room, but the front desk staff still came to my room while I was choosing one. Room 206 had a jacuzzi I couldn’t use. Although the TV was meant for ordering, orders were taken by phone only, and I couldn’t watch YouTube or any of the other services it was supposed to support. Also, rooms outside the MT VIP category don’t have microwaves.

The front desk staff were very courteous, which left a good impression. I booked online ahead of time for just under 4,000 yen for two people while visiting Ise Shrine. I expected a shabby room at that price, but it was pleasant and fairly spacious. It was handy that we could leave during our stay to get a meal after bathing. There were several good-value meal choices in the room, though that option wasn’t available on my first visit because I’d booked online. I’d like to try it next time. Ise Shrine is just under an hour away in the early morning, so if you can’t find cheap lodging nearer the shrine, this seems like a good option.

I came from Osaka on a solo motorcycle trip and stayed here. The inside has the feel of a love hotel, but it’s roomier and more comfortable than a business hotel, with enough amenities that I had no particular issues. Nights were quiet. Around 9 PM, when lots of people check in, I sometimes heard carts being pulled. If electronic sounds bother you, bring earplugs. I don’t care much about hot springs or meals, so the weekday price suited me. For motorcycle travelers, I’d suggest checking in at 6 PM. It gets cheaper if you arrive later, but spending 2-3 hours killing time on a motorcycle is tough. I’ll stay here again.
